Birmingham youtube gathering 2012

On the ninth of june 2012 I got up, got dressed, packed my bag and headed out the door on an adventure to meet youtbube celebrities from near and far. on that mystical morning I was out and heading for my train at 8 in the morning (which for a uni student on a saturday is a truely david vs goliath task). This time I had managed to set off in enough time and the walk to the train was fairly pleasent and I was rewarded with a good seat by myself on the train journey. This made me a lot happier as with my height sitting next to someone on train journeys can be uncomfortable. The train journey took roughly 2 hours with only one change which I only had to wait a couple of mins for. over the course of the journey I saw some lovely countryside and some city areas which frankly needed a little bit of work. Throughout the journey I was excited to meet the youtbers that would be at the event but was also nervous as it would be only the second time that I had been to birmingham and the first time I had been travelled so far from home by myself.

Fortunatly both chapperztv and Gordy Camp had done introductory videos for the event which made finding the meeting point a lot easier. My train journey was so good and was only a few mins late that I had arrived over an hour early to the event and after a few minuites wandering around near the meet point I nervously approached a small group of people standing in the area and was instantly less nervous as the small group of youtbers made me feel welecome. Soon more and more people would gradualy appear untill the area was awash with youtubers, both people who had only just started like myslelf and youtubers who were well known with huge followings. However I didn't know a lot of these people and a lof them didn't know me resulting in everyone being very casual and very easy to talk to and was like we all instatly became best friends.

Many of the people who attended had been to gatherings and people came from near and far to attend with people from places in scotland and a vlogger from america who came to catch up. For many of these people it had been weeks and months since they had last seen each other in person but it was like they had just seen each other yesterday. Even with many long standing friendships they were incerdably welcoming of new people such as myself and I found that I was making friends all the time I was there. It had a great atmosphere and as soon as we had all started to relax a lot more and get to know each other we moved to a place known as pidgeon park (for reasons which would become obvious) for more fun and games .

The park was just as chilled out as when we all started meeting earlier in the day and was a great opportunity to have a lot of fun and capture some footage for our channells as people starte vlogging and filming each other chatting to new people, playing games and generally having a laugh. While here I met some more new people and got some amazing footage for my vlog. This weekend was the first time I saw and got a chance to play a game called ninja where you all stand in a circle in ninja poses and you all take turns trying to tap the person's hand who is next in the circle. This goes on untill only one person who is left, who therfore wins the game and the bragging rights that go with it. Many games of ninja were played over the weeknend both big and small and after lots of watching I finally plucked up the courage to join and I am glad I did, It was so much fun and even though I didn't a lot it was an amazing game to play.

A large group of us all went to the pub taking up many tables with all our food and drink. we continued to have a good time being very casual and it resulted in everyyone making friends easier as it was less about who was famous and who was a fan and more about everyone chilling out together. It became clear than while there was a genral plan for the day the order in which things happend was very flexible and people often went and came back, often popping to the nearest mcdonalds or starbucks as well as other places. With it being less planned out it meant people had more time to relax and people were not rushed with having to get to places by certain times. Spontainaity was definatly the order of the day.

The rest of the day would see us vist a nice fountain, stick fight on skateboards, chill out by the bullring with copious amounts of energy drink and fit 11 of us in one room partying till the early. so stick around and in my next post you will find out what happend next.
